Scavenger Hunt Driving and Social Event at the Auto Museum
KCRPCA SCAVENGER HUNT SOCIAL EVENT
WHAT: This will be a combination driving event and social event. Event starts at Kansas City Automotive Museum (“KCAM”) with participants checking in and getting directions to drive to 5 different points around town to collect answers to clues and participate in low-speed driving skills tests. The driving skills tests will be “Stopping on a Dime” (dime placed on the asphalt and driver starts from approximately 20 yards away and tries to stop with his right front tire as close to the dime as possible); “Curb Rash Challenge” (parallel parking – closest to the curb is best); and “Porsche Breakfast Parking Challenge” (back into a perpendicular parking spot and try to be centered in the space). Clues will be something along the lines of going into sponsor Pegah’s and finding the price of a Chef’s Salad or counting the number of windows at sponsor KC Auto Accessories storefront. The driving event portion should take no longer than 90 minutes to complete.
WHAT ELSE: After the Scavenger Hunt, participants will return to KCAM to turn in their sheets to be scored and ranked. There will be a heavy hors d’oeurves buffet and complimentary soft drinks and water. There will be a cash bar for beer (premium $4, domestics $3) and wine ($4). The museum will be open for the guests to view the KCRPCA Porsche Month display. There will be a silent auction with around 50 items, including many cool Porsche related items. We will have a 50/50 raffle. There will be an awards ceremony to award prizes to the top 10 finishers in the Scavenger Hunt, plus awards for the oldest participant, youngest participant, oldest car, newest car, best dressed (costume) participant and best decorated vehicle. Participants are encouraged to wear a costume or driving garb and encouraged to decorate their cars for the event.
WHEN: Saturday, April 18th, scavenger hunt starts at 5:00 pm, the hors d’oeurves buffet and bar opens at 6:30 pm; awards ceremony at 8:30 pm and event ends at 9:00 pm.
COST: $30 per person. So, 2 people in one car would be $60. However, every person can have their own entry in the Scavenger Hunt (so a husband and wife in the same car can both do all of the driving challenges in the same car – they will just swap drivers for the skills tests).
T-SHIRTS: Stan Thorne has designed a great t-shirt to commemorate Porsches at KCAM. They will be sold at Saturday breakfasts starting in August. If any remain, they will be on sale at the event. Price is $25 per shirt.
SPONSORS: We have 5 sponsors – Pegah’s Restaurant, KC Auto Accessories, Jeff Tudas/Grant Montgomery with Infinitas, WM Law and the 996outpost.com internet forum.
PROCEEDS: The event is a benefit for KCAM. It is being done at no cost to KCRPCA, and all proceeds will go to KCAM.
WHAT I NEED FROM THE KCRPCA: Mainly – publicize the event! A lot of work and expense is going into this event. The docents and board of directors of KCAM are volunteering to staff the event so that the maximum number of club members can enjoy the event. We need the KCRPCA members to get excited about the event and show up and bring guests. Also, donations for silent auction items are greatly appreciated – can be Porsche related or something unrelated like a wine basket or an item to promote a business (like WM Law is donating a free estate plan).
