Re: FRUNKenstein’s ‘75 914 2.0
As mentioned above, today's project was swapping out a new Bluetooth stereo unit for the old, non-functioning CD/stereo. I went with the same $16.78 unit I just put in the 944 turbo a couple of months ago.
I had to do a fair amount of re-wiring, both at the head unit and at the speakers themselves. Also, I had to run a new switched power supply line. In the end, I got it working. It's not audiophile quality by any means, but it works. For a modern head unit, I think it blends in as well as anything.
One other note, I installed a powered antenna module instead of using the existing manual telescoping unit. I stuck it at the top of the windshield on the passenger side. It was easy to run the wires through the dash. Initial results are that FM reception sucks, but AM is passable. I listen to local AM sports talk, so nice to have that capability.

Re: FRUNKenstein’s ‘75 914 2.0
Good stuff! I have the original radio and speakers in mine. It was a $340 dealer option. [What that... like $75,000 in present dollars?]
The prior owner saved everything, so I have the sales slip, and documentation of every single oil change, valve adjustment, you name it. Fascinating stuff to sift through.
Surprisingly, the paper on the speaker cones isn't even torn. Still, sounds like crap.

Ha, good one. And the best part is that it doesn't even work. That's the next project. I already removed these miniblinds things that were installed inside the windshield as a sun blocker. I don't know what it is about me that I buy cars with really weird shit on the interior - red painted stock shift knob on my '99 996, then the "Meg Griffin" shifter on the 996tt.

It's his backup check engine light, just in case the built-in CEL fails.

It's a Mr. Magoo-sized shift light at that.
