Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?

Took the 996 out for a (reasonably) early morning ~100 mile jaunt up to and through the Sam Houston National Forest, north of Houston. Absolutely perfect top-down weather -- sunny with temperatures right around 70F. Got back to the house and tucked her away in the garage ahead of the rain we'll be s...

Re: Oil warning message

If you were caning it around that right hand bend it could be that your oil level is very low. Check your oil level with the dipstick (yeah, 996!). If it's low, top it off. I have seen the oil pressure in my 996 spike very low (not to zero, however) in very long and fast sweeping curves, when the oi...

+1 on usefulness of physical dipstick. Easy to replace with a longer one when the original one quits reading the oil level correctly.

Is that an invitation to dial the crap rationing up to "11"?

Re: 996 Carrera running hot!

My indy is a fan (ha!) of the CSF radiators. Swapping both stock radiators for CSFs plus cleaning out all the gack that accumulates at the interface of the radiators and aircon condensers would certainly boost cooling performance.

I could not care less about folks' political leanings. I have 100% control over what I read -- or don't read. I also have 100% control over how I react to what others say or think. For the most part we are able here to disagree, without being disagreeable; and when disagreeable rears its ugly head, ...

Re: 996 Carrera running hot!

I purchased a full center radiator kit which came with all the necessary brackets, hoses, etc. No trimming required. I got mine from Suncoast but they've jacked the living bejesus out of their prices. Carnewal sells the same kit for the MY99 3.4L at a price (after converting currency) that is way mo...

Re: 996 Carrera running hot!

+1 on adding third radiator. When I got my 996 back from Jake Raby several years ago after getting his 3.8L Stage 1 treatment, it came with the 160F thermostat. On hard runs the coolant temps would get pretty toasty and take quite a while to come back down. Conclusion--the 160F thermostat on its own...
