My advice... take a very loooooooooooooooong extension cord.FRUNKenstein wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 1:12 pm Problem is that the 170 hp electric motors go into a reduced power mode at that point, basically sucking juice off the battery as fast as the 38 hp range extender generator can produce it.

Making sure you have all the various adapters is important too. It will be fun pulling up to plug in only to find the charger isn't using your plug...b3freak wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 5:01 pmMy advice... take a very loooooooooooooooong extension cord.FRUNKenstein wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 1:12 pm Problem is that the 170 hp electric motors go into a reduced power mode at that point, basically sucking juice off the battery as fast as the 38 hp range extender generator can produce it.

You mean that POS BMW weighs more than that? Wait belly full of batteries...never mind. EV cars can bite me...5chn3ll wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 4:43 pm Of course, that Beetle weighed 1,600 lbs soaking wet...

update: looked up specs weight @3,000 lbs. That's going to be one loooong trip! Semis will pull away like you're on a moped.

It will also do 700+ miles on a single tank with a 80mph average down the highway

Sounds like a fun, if slow, trip. After Audi/VW bought back our dieselgate A3 I looked hard at the i3 and drove one for close to 100 miles. Really liked it, especially the interior. Try to find one with the eucalyptus wood - really makes it a higher end look. In the end the wife did not like the funky styling and was concerned about the range (was looking at the non-range-extender version). They drive very well - pretty quick and quiet, but the handling was good.
We ended up with the GTI which has worked out very well - wife loves it - but likely there will be an EV in our world sooner or later.
