Re: Introducing Porsche PCCM double din with Apple CarPlay for the 996
I have seen this, and some people on the facebook group are going nuts for it. But I don’t see the value for $1,700 compared to what I paid for a decent double-din conversion - pretty sure I’m all in well under $500. I’m sure the Porsche unit has some nice features but still...

For $500 does it actually match the interior? The heads I've installed over the years have always stood out like a sore thumb even though I went lengths to find the least offensive.Battery Guy wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 6:11 pmI have seen this, and some people on the facebook group are going nuts for it. I thought about the single DIN option they've had for awhile, but it was always about triple the most expensive aftermarket option and looks weren't THAT important. If this is going to be $1700 and actually matches the interior, then I might go for it. It's been a long time, but the last I looked most quality doubles weren't much cheaper anyway.
That video didn't really show much of the unit though so it's hard to tell how well it matches...

Here - I will let you be the judge. It is certainly not perfect, but pretty close. Will be interested in your thoughts.gnat wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 6:28 pmFor $500 does it actually match the interior? My aftermarket double din bought just last year was about $500. It fits in nicely with the interior. My aftermarket single din in the 928 sticks out horribly. It is on my list of stuff to upgrade as it doesn’t even have Bluetooth. But I cannot see spending triple just to get the Porsche brand.

Single Din?
Double Din?
Apple Car Play?
Bluetooth?
Wished you guys would speak English or at least American for me.
I'm just happy the 996 has a CD player! The Type R doesn't. Just a USB plug and 45 pages in the Owners Manual for everything the "sound system" can do.

Don't get me wrong, you being happy with it is all that matters. The wife and I are just uber picky (especially since some colors (turn of the century Audi red lighting for example) trigger her migraines pretty bad)

Yeah, I was expecting it to be a lot more expensive and was pleasantly surprised. I bought it through the local car audio shop, so I think I pretty much paid full retail.
Edit: Mine is the Kenwood DMX-7704S. Looking online, this DMX-7705S is probably this year’s version of the same head unit.

$289.95 with free shipping. Has both Android Auto and Apple Car Play (no Android Auto on the Porsche unit).

Re: Introducing Porsche PCCM double din with Apple CarPlay for the 996
Will talk some pictures. There was a choice of screen colors, and the orange is somewhat close to the lighting in the car. But honestly I get in the car and plug my phone in, so it is pretty much always on Apple CarPlay if I’m driving - that interface is the same for every head unit. I rarely listen to broadcast radio. Some more expensive aftermarket units have the ability to put a Porsche logo into the home screen, but my Sony unit does not have that capability.gnat wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 7:52 pmWhat's it look like on and at night?Battery Guy wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 6:51 pm
