Nope. Simply a rhetorical question.gnat wrote: ↑Mon Nov 14, 2022 6:48 amDo you really need that question answered?32wildbilly wrote: ↑Mon Nov 14, 2022 5:45 am
NFTs. That's another thing I just can't get my head around either. Are people really just complete blithering idiots or what?

Our family knew one the of B-17 pilots. One of the nicest and most conscientious people we knew. My wife and I enjoyed several days enjoying the Ozarks in our Porsches with him, his wife, and other Porschephiles just 2 weeks ago.FRUNKenstein wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 7:10 am32wildbilly wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 3:38 pm
Hate seeing this not only because of the probable loss of lives, but I think the number of air worthy B-17s are dwindling. From watching the video looks like the P-63 misjudged his closing speed.
Horrific crash. 6 dead. Loss of 2 historic aircraft.
We had this sign (and a couple of others) posted in our Operations Department at the counter where you reviewed the maintenance records of the aircraft you were about to go flying in. Very sad day.

The only good that can come out of this tragedy is a full understanding of why the accident occurred, so that others can learn from it without having to live through a similar event themselves.
RIP to those who perished, and prayers for the families and friends affected.

Apologies to Elvis, although I don't think he's likely to notice...

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com
I fixed my Dad's high efficiency gas boiler over the weekend. The inducer fan stopped working because a fan blade broke off and the fan was jammed. It's 16 years old so not too bad.
A new fan was $500 and I installed it in 2 hours.
The two companies he called to fix it... one said the fan was available for $1500 and it would take 10 hours (@ 470/hr) to install.
The other said fan not available, but we can hook you up with a new boiler for $12,500 installed. My dad's a retired master plumber. He installed this boiler 16 years ago. So he called the supply house and got a quote for the new boiler - $3500. So, $3500 for the boiler plus $9000 to install it.
Remind me again why we don't suggest to high school students that becoming a tradesman is a good choice? It seems like a plumber can make $100/hour around here.

Careful or you are going to get me ranting
The systematic destruction of trades due to the "beneath us" mentality that has been propagated over the last 30+ years is disgusting. They are rarely easy work, but they can be good work and as you point out can rake in some serious money. If you're willing to bust your ass, you don't even need to go to school as you can more often than not find apprenticeship positions to get started.
I was almost a welder (trained at Job Corps and later picked up a couple stick certifications), but I do enjoy sitting on my ass in front of a computer all day better
