Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
I did the window regulator this weekend. I followed a video I found on YouTube to take the door off, and another one to replace the regulator. Not really hard, marking the placement of the window before you take it out of the old regulator got the adjustments really close.
DO NOT BUY the Brock version of the regulator (the cheapest I could find). The front bottom mount was ok, but the angle was very wrong on the back mount. The mounts are supposed to sit flush on the mounting rail at the bottom, but the back mount angle was way off. I bent it, but the fitment was really bad. That I got the window to fit correctly is a minor miracle.
And I don't know how you avoid the airbag light. I disconnected the battery then removed the airbag, but needed to reconnect the battery because you need power to check fitment. I think turning the car on with the airbag disconnected caused my light. The only other option is to work with the airbag connected, but I did not feel comfortable with that especially as the 9-year-old was helping.
After a quick trip to my local, friendly Porsche dealer (Paul Miller), the airbag light was fixed and I was done. It's nice to have a window that opens without crunching noises.

Well done. Did they charge you to clear the code? Our local dealer charges $75 to clear a code on something that they do not fix. But then if you had our local dealer do the work, the bill would have been around $1200.

They didn't charge me! I wasn't kidding about them being friendly. I have always been treated nicely over there, despite owning a 928 and a 996. Fun story, the guy at the desk tells me to pull behind a 356 that looked brand new, I almost peed myself thinking about accidentally running into it.Einsteiger wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 8:15 am Well done. The tech used it as an opportunity to show two other guys the PIWIS system, but I'm not complaining.

I bought an Autel MaxiDiag MD808 Pro scan tool earlier this year. I have bought several other scan tools over the years. This model costs $229 with free shipping on eBay. Compatible with Porsche. For that price point, it is a great tool and does everything that my skill level requires.

Nice scanner. I should have looked around more - for another $80 I could have got that one instead of the one I got at AutoZone that is not Porsche compatible. I may upgrade if Santa visits this year.

Thanks. I later realized that a "Well, bless your heart" would have worked also.32wildbilly wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 5:34 am That explains a lot. Mr. Despicable.(btw that was a perfect retort.)
