Re: rack'm!
On the rack, doing final testing of all engine components (bore scoping, compression, cam dev, fuel trim, rough running index, manometer test, coolant system, emissions, etc.). Fluids have been dumped and replaced with fresh. Last will be a bath and trip home.

He plans to spent the remaining part of his life rebuilding his Porsche 912E for his 14 year old son to have. While talking with Jake, he noticed my car and said it looked familiar. Long story short, he happens to be friends with the original owner. Small world we live in folks. Short life too and so make each day your best.

I never watched this show, but did they really call a Boxster a chick car? I mean, its a convertible I guess. There are a lot of other ones they could have chosen like a Miata.FRUNKenstein wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 10:03 am

On a related note, the oldest is two years away from her license. Is it wrong of me to be excited about picking out a car for her? I'm thinking sub-$10K, on the larger side (for safety) although I bet I could find a Boxster at that price especially an auto. Probably end up with a Jeep.

We gave our 2009 Toyota Rav4 owned since new to our first 16 year old grand kid. Big enough but not too big. All wheel drive so good in winter. She loves it.OceanBlue2000 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 1:40 pmI never watched this show, but did they really call a Boxster a chick car? I mean, its a convertible I guess. Maybe girls are more responsible than boys - but if I had a kid, I'd give them something ENORMOUS and cheap for their first car, at least initially.
When I was 16, I plowed my grandfather's Cutlass Supreme 4-door into the side of a landscaping truck doing about 40. I put the hurt on that truck; the Olds needed a new bumper, some fender work, a new grille and fan cowl, and some paint. No airbags in those days, but it turns out 16 1/2 feet of Oldsmobile can soak up a serious hit.
Said Oldsmobile did not have Positraction - my poor grandfather never figured out why the right rear tire wore out 3-4 times faster than the other three.
Not THE car, but one just like it:

Those big old heavy cars could do a healthy one tire burnout and really go nowhere even without a line-lock!5chn3ll wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 2:25 pm Maybe girls are more responsible than boys - but if I had a kid, I'd give them something ENORMOUS and cheap for their first car, at least initially.

This is a montage of the funniest parts of the Boxster episode. Definitely worth the watch:OceanBlue2000 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 1:40 pm

As for your kid’s first car, get something brightly colored. Stay away from 2013-2018 Hyundais and Kias. They will be temptingly cheap, but don’t do it. Bought two for friends’ kids back in January and February. Engines went out in both. Then the low mileage replacement engine went out in one of them. So, 2 cars with a total of 3 engine failures in under 5 months.
